If you are selecting an alternative therapy for treating obesity and an attempt at weight loss it is important you discuss with the therapist if the therapy is suitable for you and it is always recommended that an individual talk with a doctor or another health care provider before starting any weight loss plan. Ayerverdic Therapy
Ayurveda, is the healing system of India, and suggests specific foods be eaten depending on your body type, which are known as pitta, vatta or kapha.
In Sanskrit pitta refers to the fire type who have metabolism, heat and transformation dominating which gives them active minds, always trying to learn and digest new things both mentally and physically.
Vitta refers to the air principle, these body types have lightness, quickness and flexibility in most aspects of their lives.

Kapha is known in Sanskrit as the earth type indicating more mass and structure and tending to be easy going, nurturing while slower in both body and mind, they also tend to accumulate when under stress.
In Ayurveda underweight and overweight are signs that these systems are out of balance, which can happen irrespective of how much or how little food you eat. Weight control problems happen when your food intake is not balanced by a proper digestion or metabolism.

The Ayurvedic approach to achieving your ideal weight is based on taking a realistic look at your body type and what it can be, and then nourishing it back to natural health. It is about getting to know your body and becoming in tune with its rhythms.

Ayurveda teaches that one can lose weight in many ways. You have an option to choose from diets, massages and exercises

The use of hypnosis as an instrument to achieve weight loss and weight control has become very popular. Hypnotherapy
can induce a state of relaxation affecting both your body and mind. In this state the subconscious and conscious parts of the mind start to work on the same concepts at the same time thus your mind becomes open to cleverly worded influences and suggestions which can reinforce your desire to lose weight and maintain a diet that is suitable to achieve this goal

Water, being a natural resource, supplies a non invasive drug free therapy to speed up the weight loss process, it also improves the renal performance, reducing the chances of kidney problems and can help maintain a youthful and healthy skin.

Laser Therapy
The use of Laser Therapy as an aid to weight loss is a relative new treatment available to help people successfully reinforce their weight loss regime.
Laser therapy is very similar to Acupuncture in concept but instead of using needles low level "cold lasers" are used to stimulate parts of the bodies surface mainly on the face, ears, hands and arms.It is a pain free and drug free solution usually requiring a relatively small number of sessions

Weight Loss Tips and Benefits

  • Initially you should find what should be your healthy weight according to your height then set a period of perhaps 3 - 6 months for achieving the weight loss goal.
  • Try to aim for a slow and steady but healthy weight loss target.
  • Record this weight loss goal on your calender. .
  • Keep a diary of how many calories you are consuming each day, it is important to ensure you burn more calories everyday, than the amount of calories you are consuming.
  • Try not to check your weight every day but do so every weekend.
  • Avoid missing breakfast. the body needs it.Try starting your breakfast with fruits, fruit juices without any added sugar, or cereals. Even a light breakfast will reduce your need to binge later in the day.
  • Eat sensible main meals avoiding any junk food, fried foods, high calorie foods
  • Always follow a balanced diet, when attempting a weight loss program. Include a lot of fruits in your diet, lots of raw vegetables and salads try to include a lot of fibre rich foods as they help remove fat from the body. Lists of fibre rich foods are readily available.
  • It is important not to snack between meals
  • Try to avoid eating for at least an hour before going to bed
  • Try to substitute fruits like; bananas, apples, plums, peaches, and oranges for sugary treats like; bicuits and sweets.
  • Substitute honey for sugar, and carob powder for chocolate in all recipes. These taste just as good.
  • Avoid eating any processed foods and sugary drinks.
  • The aim of a weight loss program should be a healthy weight loss, so avoid starving yourself which could cause nutrition deficiencies. Starving yourself has the effect of slowing down your metabolism.

  • Try joining a gym or using some exercise equipment at home.
  • Use exercise workouts that help to burn calories fast. These include running, skipping and swimming.
  • Take small measure such as walking or cycling short journeys, avoid lifts and elevators use stairs when available.


There is nothing stopping you from losing weight except yourself. Remove the "I can't do anything about my weight problem" mindset and start losing pounds today!

Harmful effects of being overweight

Weighing too much may increase your risk of developing various health problems. If your body mass index (BMI) indicates that you are overweight or obese, you may be at risk for many of obesity's health effects. These include:-

  • Heart attacks are a major risk for overweight or obese people.
  • High blood pressure (hypertension)
  • Fatty liver disease (also called nonalcoholic steatohepatitis or NASH)
  • Obesity is associated with the development of osteoarthritis of the hand, hip, back, and knees.
  • It increases the risk of developing cancer of the esophagus.
  • Gallstones are common in overweight and obese persons.
  • Can cause fatty liver disease (also called nonalcoholic steatohepatitis or NASH)
  • Increases the risk of Type 2 diabetes
  • Gout can often result from being overweight
