Reiki:- The Seven Chakras and their functions
David W Bates www.therapiesguide.co.uk

Reiki – The 7 Chakras (Chakra is a Sanskrit word and means "wheel”)
There are various Eastern concepts, philosophies and theories that refer to the 7 major energy centres or 'chakras' in the human body, including Reiki and Yoga.

The chakras are both connected to the physical organs in our body and the different layers in the aura. Positioned along the spinal column, the major chakras form the backbone of the network through which the mind, body and spirit act as one holistic system. Reiki hand positions, as used here in the west, covers and treat all the major chakras.

7 Chakras - centres of energy
The seven chakras (numbered according to the chakra system) are located at the following points of the body, along the line of the spine. The 7 Chakras are the energy centers in our body in which energy flows through. If this energy becomes blocked illness can result so it's important to understand what each Chakra represents and what we can do to keep this energy flowing freely.

The 12 Reiki hand positions are located above these chakras (energy centres)

There are seven power centers in your body, called chakras. The state of each chakra reflects the health of a particular area of your body. It also reflects your psychological, emotional and spiritual well-being. These chakras, or energy centers, function as pumps or valves, regulating the flow of energy through our energy system. They are not physical but aspects of consciousness in the same way that the auras are aspects of consciousness. The chakras are more dense than the auras, but not as dense as the physical body. They interact with the physical body through two major vehicles, the endocrine system and the nervous system. Each of the seven chakras is associated with one of the seven endocrine glands, and also with a group of nerves called a plexus. Thus, each chakra can be associated with particular parts of the body and particular functions within the body controlled by that plexus or that endocrine gland associated with that chakra.
