Information about Psycotherapy

Psychotherapy
Is a technique used by therapists that aims to treat a person’s emotional and mental health and psychological disorders helping them come to a fuller understanding of their worries, abilities, difficulties, life stress or motivation which results in the patient increasing their sense of well-being and discovering new ways of coping.

By exploring and understanding their feelings, thoughts, beliefs, often painful emotions and through self-examination e.g. - what makes them feel positive or anxious, what makes them worry or motivated, through this recognition and acceptance of their strong and weak points and by identifying their feelings and ways of thinking they can help change their behaviour and become better at coping with what they perceive as difficult situations.

Psychotherapy will involve conversations that explore feelings, beliefs, thoughts and relevant events, often from childhood and the patient’s personal history. Generally it will be about things that are troubling the individual patient (often children) , couples, families and groups.
